A Peek into our School Days of late...

I love the flexibility of homeschooling. One of those reasons is because school days can work around my husband's schedule. His normal days off are Sunday and Monday, so we school Tuesdays through Saturdays, with any of those days in between being a flex day if needed. I actually prefer to save one of the five days for Nature Walks/Studies; however, it seems that more often than not, something else comes up during the week (grocery shopping, appointments, visits with friends...) and Nature-y things have to be incorporated into our other school days. But this is part of the flexibility of homeschooling, right?

Well, as is a rare case in Texas, we got some arctic weather this past week and everything shut down! This also meant that Hubby didn't work Tuesday, then AGAIN a half-day Friday and all day Saturday due to icy conditions. And when Daddy is home, we just hang out :-)

Some things we did:

We took some snow days to play...

...with a mud day to thaw out in between arctic blasts...

We took a short Nature Walk to the creek...
BTW, that is not our cat. This stray followed us like a puppy.
I am surprised I got a smile out of Almanzo at all.
He was not happy with this cat!

We did some bird-watching from our window...
Among the many other birds we observed, we were so pleased to see a live inca dove at our feeder! (A first)
Remember the dead one Royal found a few weeks ago?

And we played a little catch-up with a few school-related items...

...and had fun with a few non-school-related things...
Fun with magnets, tinker toys, geometry and a little imagination!

Alice seems to need more grace when it comes to getting all the readings done "on time". Her attention span is still very short, so her reading schedule is on a slower track. I expect to extend Year 1 for possibly a year-and-a-half. Again, flexibility!

.............................................................

Well that about sums up what we've been doing lately. I hope to get back to a more normalized schedule this week!
